Ruiz Ospina named NJCAA Keeper of the Week again

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast men's soccer coach ranks David Ruiz Ospina as perhaps the top keeper he's had at Perk.

It's no surprise, then, that he picked up his second NJCAA Keeper of the Week award Wednesday for his excellence. The freshman from Manizales, Colombia, picked up two wins last week to earn that distinction.

Ruiz Ospina picked up his seventh shutout of the season, second most in the NJCAA, in blanking Itawamba 1-0. He had a crucial save in a 3-2 win at Hinds that moved Gulf Coast within one win of a second MACCC title in three seasons.

Tuesday night in Summit, he helped Gulf Coast accomplish that feat by beating Southwest Mississippi 3-1. The win earned the Bulldogs a bye into the NJCAA Gulf South District Tournament semifinals, which will be played Nov. 3 in Ellisville.
