No. 15 Gulf Coast sees 8-game win streak snapped

PERKINSTON — No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast could have all but locked up the MACCC men's soccer title Friday at Bary Thrash Field, but No. 6 Jones got the must-win game in a 2-0 shutout.

The Bulldogs (9-2-2, 7-1 MACCC) remain in first place in the standings with three games to play, but their lead is down to two points over the Bobcats (10-2-2, 6-1-1).

Jones scored on a breakout in the 37th minute to open the scoring. The Bulldogs had carried the play much of the first half but couldn't cash in on multiple chances.

The Bobcats put the game away in the 76th minute when a free kick from the left wing found the head of a free runner on the far side of the goal.

Gulf Coast saw its eight-game win streak snapped and allowed a goal for the first time in six games.

The Bulldogs close out their home regular-season schedule Tuesday when Itawamba visits. Kickoff at Perk is set for 5 p.m.
