Ruiz Ospina named MACCC Keeper of the Week
PERKINSTON — No. 17 Mississippi Gulf Coast got a big win over archrival Pearl River last week, and the man at the back earned a big award Tuesday.
Freshman David Ruiz Ospina, from Manizales, Colombia, kept the Wildcats at bay in earning a 4-1 win in Poplarville to earn MACCC Keeper of the Week honors. He made five saves in the Bulldogs' conference opener.
He ranks second in the league in shutouts, and he'll be back out there Tuesday night when Copiah-Lincoln visits Bary Thrash Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with tickets available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
Ruiz Ospina is the second Bulldog to win a weekly MACCC award this year. Forward Kade Smith was named Player of the Week two weeks ago.
