Smith’s 17 points lead Bulldogs to big win

Mississippi Gulf Coast closed out a successful opening weekend of the men's basketball season Saturday in Poplarville, rolling past Enterprise State 91-68.

Omarion Smith (So., Atlanta Ga./Douglas County) led the Bulldogs with 17 points.

"He fouled out of the first game and was in foul trouble within the first couple minutes of the game," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "He struggled in our first game, but we need him on the floor. He does a lot for us on both ends."

John Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) and Jabarie Robinson (So., Raymond/Raymond) had 13 points each for Gulf Coast. Duran Parish (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) chipped in 11.

It was the second win in as many days for the Bulldogs, who will open their home schedule Thursday when MACCC-rival Jones visits Dantzler Arena for a non-conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Bulldogs are averaging 95 points through two games.

"We played better defensively," Miller said. "We were better in our halfcourt defense than we were on Friday. Offensively, we were very productive. In our two games, we've been efficient. We took care of the ball."
