Bulldogs knock out Crusaders early

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast ran away from the William Carey JV early Thursday night on the way to a 94-63 win at Dantzler Arena.

"I thought the first half we did what we were supposed to do, but the second half we got sloppy," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "The game got bad there late. Our depth got them really tired there at the end."

The Bulldogs got back to .500 in the eighth game of the season, led by four players in double figures. Jabarie Robinson (So., Raymond/Raymond) led the team with 19 points while grabbing five rebounds.

Kaue Kalinowski (Fr., Curitiba Brazil/Divine Savior) had 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

"It was good to see Kaue make some shots," Miller said. "He's been struggling the last three or four games. He made four 3's and we had 12 for the game."

Javeon Gordon (So., Mount Olive/Mount Olive) had 11 points, and Omarion Smith (So., Atlanta Ga./Douglas County) had 10 points, six rebounds and five blocks.

"We had four guys in double figures, then had a couple right there close," Miller said. "Anytime we can get four, five or six guys in double figures, that's going to bode well for us."

Gulf Coast held William Carey (0-3) to just 20 percent shooting from the field in the first half.  Robinson helped propel the Bulldogs to a 54-17 halftime lead.

"He was really aggressive in the second half at Pearl River," Miller said. "He struggled in the first half, but he started back where he left off on Tuesday night."

Gulf Coast will play again Monday night when Piney Woods visits Dantzler Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
