Robinson pours in 21 in another big win

PERKINSTON — Six Bulldogs scored in double-digits Tuesday and Mississippi Gulf Coast broke the century barrier for the second straight game, trouncing the University of Mobile JV 104-83 at Dantzler Arena.

"We were sloppy with 19 turnovers," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "Defensively, we gambled a little too much and took too many chances, but we finished the first half 8-4 and go to conference play a week from Thursday and need to build off this and get better."

Jabarie Robinson (So., Raymond/Raymond) made 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc and 8-of-12 from the field on the way to 21 points. Omarion Smith (So., Atlanta Ga./Douglas County) had 17 points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Gulf Coast has scored 90 or more points in seven of eight victories and five straight. Twice this season, the Bulldogs have missed the 100-point mark by a single free throw.

The Bulldogs led 64-43 at halftime and were up by as many as 47 in the second half.

Larry Lee (Fr., Utica/Raymond) had 13 points, and Jabbari Barry (Fr., Lake Charles La./Barbe) and John Davis (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had 11 each. Duran Parish (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) added 10 points.

All 10 Bulldogs who played scored, and the team shot 57.5 percent from the field. They were 11-of-27 on 3-pointers. Gulf Coast had 28 assists but 19 turnovers.

Robinson scored 21 points coming off the bench for the second straight game.

"He's been putting time in outside of practice," Miller said. "We need him to score. He's proven he can really score. The thing I'm most proud of him is that he's getting better defensively. He's making progress there."
