Bulldogs lose 2OT heartbreaker at Pensacola State

Mississippi Gulf Coast lost a wild double-overtime men's basketball thriller Tuesday at Pensacola State, falling 94-93.

Jabbari Barry (Fr., Lake Charles La./Barbe) poured in 28 points, including shooting 7-of-13 from behind the arc. Jabarie Robinson (So., Raymond/Raymond) had 22 points while making 8-of-11 free throws.

The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 11 early in the second half, rallied to tie, only to fall behind by five with three minutes left. They led by two after a pair of free throws by Anthony Robinson (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) in the dying seconds, but PSC made two of their own to force overtime.

The Pirates (5-0) scored the first seven points of the first OT session, but Gulf Coast battled back. Three 3-point field goals by Barry down the stretch got the Bulldogs in position to tie it again. Barry broke the press in the final few seconds, only to lose possession. Kaue Kalinowski (Fr., Curitiba Brazil/Divine Savior) was in the right place, though, and laid it in at the buzzer.

Gulf Coast led by four in the second overtime, but Pensacola battled back to take a 93-91 lead in the final seconds. The Pirates celebrated prematurely and rushed the court with time left on the clock, which resulted in a technical foul. The Bulldogs missed the free throw and didn't have enough time to get a shot off.

Kalinowski had 11 points, and Larry Lee had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Gulf Coast (2-2) returns to Florida on Friday to play No. 8 Chipola on its homecourt in Marianna. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT with another game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Gulf Coast State.
