Gulf Coast can’t hold on at NEMCC

Mississippi Gulf Coast couldn't hold onto a lead late Monday night, falling 80-75 to Northeast Mississippi at Booneville.

Jabbari Barry (Fr., Lake Charles La./Barbe) made 6-of-9 from behind the arc and finished with 25 points to lead the Bulldogs. Duran Parish (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Javeon Gordon (So., Mount Olive/Mount Olive) had 11 points and four rebounds off the bench. Omarion Smith (So., Atlanta Ga./Douglas County) had 10 points and six rebounds.

Gulf Coast led 70-63 with 3:30 left but couldn't hold on.

The Bulldogs (11-6, 3-3 MACCC) had trailed by 11 in the first half but took a 35-31 lead into the locker room.

Northeast improves to 18-3, 3-2.

Gulf Coast shot better than 45 percent from the 3-point line and held Northeast under 30 percent. The Tigers made 18-of-20 free throws, while the Bulldogs made just 13-of-19.
