Bulldogs run win streak to 7

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast ran its win streak to seven Tuesday by sweeping Coastal Alabama-South at Ross-Smith Field.

The Bulldogs cruised to a 9-2 win in the first game, and appeared set for an easy win in the second before the Sun Chiefs scored four times in the sixth before Gulf Coast closed the door for a 7-6 win.

Kennedy Brown (So., Southaven/Northpoint Christian) entered Game 1 in relief and pitched four shutout innings for the win. She's 2-1 on the season.

Kamryn LaFosse (Fr., Lake Charles, La./Sam Houston) had the big hit, a three-run homer in the fourth to blow open the game. She also had an RBI double in the third to tie the game at 2.

Jorja Roberson (Fr., Branyan/East Union) was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Laurel Ladner (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) doubled twice.

Kylie Burnette (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) was mowing down Sun Chief hitters in the second. She was pulled up 4-1 in the fourth and was credited with the win to move to 4-2.

"Kennedy came in pitched spectacularly in Game 1," Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. "Kylie was throwing really well. We need all five pitchers on our staff, so it was a planned pitch count when I pulled Kylie. It's easy to look back and say I shouldn't have pulled her, but Kennedy's done well."

K.K. Agner (So., Horn Lake/Magnolia Heights) hit her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first. She finished with two hits. Roberson went 3-for-4 again with a double and an RBI single.

LaFosse had another double, and Jett Harrell (Fr., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) picked up two hits, including a double. She also got the save as Gulf Coast ran through four pitchers in the final frame.

Gulf Coast pounded out 14 hits in the second game, finishing the day with 27.

"All day long, we swung the bats well," Kuhn said. "We left too many on base the second game, but that's on me. There were a lot of situations I could have moved runners or sent runners and I didn't. That one's on me for letting it get too close."

Gulf Coast (14-6) is back in action Friday when Baton Rouge visits Perk. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. The games will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
