Bulldogs lose to No. 7 Copiah-Lincoln

ELLISVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast ended a long day at the ballpark on the next day Thursday morning getting bounced into the losers' bracket with a 6-1 loss to No. 7 Copiah-Lincoln.

It was the final game of the Wednesday schedule that didn't start until 12:16 a.m. Gulf Coast had won the second game in dramatic fashion by erasing a two-run deficit in extra innings to beat East Central 6-4 on Abby Vance's walk-off homer.

The sophomore from Calhoun City had another home run in the second game for the only Gulf Coast score.

Gulf Coast (37-19) will have to play again at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, facing Itawamba. The Indians lost 6-5 to Holmes in the opening game of the tournament.

Copiah-Lincoln is now 39-8. The Wolves will have Thursday off before playing Pearl River in the winners' bracket Friday.

Each team had just four hits, but Co-Lin capitalized on seven walks. Kate Brannan (So., Enterprise/Enterprise) doubled for the Bulldogs.

Kylie Burnette (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) pitched two perfect innings of relief.
