PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast made a spirited comeback after a sluggish first half Monday night but couldn't make it all the way back.
The Bulldogs (10-9, 4-3 MACCC) lost 59-54 at Dantzler Arena to Coahoma.
They trailed 35-19 at halftime but doubled their score in the third quarter to cut the deficit to nine. Gulf Coast made an early 9-0 run to get it under double-digits. Allison Irby (Fr., Olive Branch/Lewisburg) made a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the period, and she finished with a team-high 16.
Trailing by 8 with 5 minutes to play, Teairra Lee (Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) made a driving bucket, followed by Taelar Felton (Fr., Clinton/Clinton). To get it to 55-51 with 3:50 left.
Felton made a free throw to make it a one-possession game, but Gulf Coast couldn't close the gap anymore. She finished with 13 points.
Katelyn Brinkley (Fr., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) had 15.
Coahoma is 15-2, 5-1.
The Bulldogs travel to Decatur on Thursday to play at East Central. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
