Bulldogs blitz Eagles 76-41
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast dominated from the jump Monday on the way to a 76-41 win over Meridian at Dantzler Arena.
The Bulldogs cranked up the defensive pressure and improved to 13-10 overall, 7-4 MACCC.
"That's what we stand on, our defensive principles," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "When we're guarding and rebounding, we're just a better team. That creates easier offense for our team."
Kristen McMillan (So., Hoover, Ala./Hoover) provided a bench boost and led Gulf Coast in scoring.
"It makes us harder to guard when you have other people stepping up," Adams said. "Kristen stepping up off the bench, leading us with 17 points, that's big."
Taelar Felton (Fr., Clinton/Clinton) had 13 points, and Hailey Brumfield (Fr., Amite, La./Amite) and Tamia Yates (So., Crystal Springs/Crystal Springs) added 12 each.
Gulf Coast led 21-10 and had the Eagles (13-12, 5-5) doubled up much of the game. The Bulldogs held them to six points in the third quarter.
"I was proud of their effort and how they responded after that loss on Thursday (at Itawamba)," Adams said. "This is gonna be a great run for us as we get ready to go into the postseason. It's been a tough season, but I think we're gonna start gelling and being the team we're supposed to be."
MGCCC has its MACCC open date Thursday. They'll travel next Monday to Senatobia to play Northwest Mississippi.
