Bulldogs aiming for complete R23 quarters game

PERKINSTON — The last time Mississippi Gulf Coast made the trip to Fulton, the Bulldogs had a great chance to get a road win. They led after three quarters but couldn't hold on.

They'll play against Itawamba in the NJCAA Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

"We've just got to play a 40-minute ballgame and control the boards," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We have to make sure they only get one shot. At the other end, we have to execute. We can't rush our offense and have to know what we want."

The game will be streamed at https://letsgoicctv.com/red/. Admission will be free.

Dekyra Mitchell (Fr., Durant/Holmes County) led the Bulldogs with 19 points last time. Gulf Coast led 44-39 after 30 minutes but gave up the first 15 points of the final quarter and never recovered.

Adams has stressed that her team needs to be aggressive offensively all game. She wants them to attack.

The Bulldogs will have to be efficient, too, with only a short bench available this postseason.

"It's about everybody pulling their weight so we can put together a full 40-minute game," Adams said. "That will give us a chance to be victorious."
