Bulldogs tied for 5th after loss
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast stubbed its toe trying to move up in the MACCC women's basketball standings Thursday, falling 75-67 to Southwest Mississippi on Sophomore Night at Dantzler Arena.
Taelar Felton (Fr., Clinton/Clinton) led Gulf Coast with 16 points. Kristen McMillan (So., Hoover, Ala./Hoover) continued her late-season surge with 12 points, and Hailey Brumfield added 11.
Bulldogs (13-12, 7-6 MACCC) had already clinched a playoff spot, but are now in a six-team jumble in the middle of the MACCC pack. They are one of three teams tied for fifth at 7-6, with the other three at 6-7. Southwest (15-11, 6-7) is one of those at 6-7, tied for eighth.
The top 11 teams in the conference qualify for the postseason, with the fifth through eighth seeds hosting first-round games in the Region 23 Tournament on March 6.
Gulf Coast trailed 13-7 after the first quarter and never got closer than three the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs close the regular season Monday with a trip to Wesson to play Copiah-Lincoln. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
