Bulldogs lose to No. 18 Chipola

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast lost its first women's basketball game of the season Thursday night, falling 67-53 to No. 18 Chipola.

The Bulldogs suffered only their second loss in 15 games at Dantzler Arena, which turns one-year old next week. It was the second game of the day in the Bulldog Invitational.

Ja'Sharreah Hunt (So., Roxie/Franklin County) and Tytiana Buckley (So., Meridian/Meridian) had 12 points each for Gulf Coast. Simaru Fields (So., Pass Christian/Gulfport) added 11.

The Bulldogs trailed by five after the first period and eight at halftime. They got within six in the final minute of the third quarter, but Chipola (4-0) scored eight of the first 10 points in the final quarter to start pulling away.

Chipola will play Meridian in the first game of the final day of the Bulldog Invitational on Friday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Gulf Coast will play Bishop State in the second game. The Wildcats won the opener Thursday against Meridian, gutting out a 67-61 win.
