Bulldogs blow out another MACCC foe

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast continued its domination of MACCC women's basketball opposition Thursday night, beating Holmes 71-40 at Dantzler Arena.

The Bulldogs (10-3) have outscored their first three conference foes by 29, 31 and 31 points. It was a suffocating defense that kept the visitors in check.

"We took out (Bella Roberts), who was their leading scorer," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We stuck to the gameplan there, but honestly, we could have played a little better defensively. We left some steals out on the table."

Holmes (9-6, 0-2 MACCC) managed only 21 points in the first three quarters, giving a sputtering Gulf Coast offense a 27-point cushion. The Bulldogs finally started going inside in the second half, and Je'Mya Evans (So., Gulfport/Harrison Central) had another big night.

She scored 13 in the final stanza to finish with 21 points. It's her second straight 20-plus night and fourth on the season.

"We were rushing in the beginning," Adams said. "This was one of those games where we needed to get it on the inside. We had a clear matchup advantage inside. The second half, we started getting the ball to Je'Mya."

Tytiana Buckley (So., Meridian/Meridian) added 15 points, and Ja'Sharreah Hunt (So., Roxie/Franklin County) chipped in 11.

The Bulldogs started the game on a 15-3 run and never looked back.

Gulf Coast hits the road Monday to take on Jones. Tipoff in Ellisville is set for 5:30 p.m.
