Fields wins MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast women's basketball star Simaru Fields has picked up her first conference award of the season.
She was named the MACCC Player of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3 for a pair of great performances. The award was voted on by the conference's sports information directors.
The sophomore guard from Pass Christian averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds during a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. In a 75-52 loss at No. 8 Pensacola State, she had 20 points and six rebounds.
In a 100-52 win over Tallahassee, the Old Dominion signee had 21 points and seven rebounds. She made 7-of-16 3-pointers (43.8 percent) for the week.
Fields, who earned MACCC Player of the Week once as a freshman, is now eligible for NJCAA weekly honors. That award will be announced Wednesday.
