Talented class will be celebrated at Sophomore Night

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will celebrate a superb women's basketball class at Sophomore Night when the first-place Bulldogs host Northwest Mississippi.

Tipoff at Dantzler Arena is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

The sophomore class consists of Tytiana Buckley (So., Meridian/Meridian), Je'Mya Evans (So., Gulfport/Harrison Central), Simaru Fields (So., Pass Christian/Gulfport) and Ja'Sharreah Hunt (So., Roxie/Franklin County). They have already won 35 games over their two seasons, with two more left in the regular season.

They've earned a bye in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, so they'll be playing a postseason game at Perk on Monday, March 11. Tipoff time will be determined after the men's playoff picture shakes out.

  • MGCCC: 18-4/11-1 MACCC, T-1st place in conference
  • Northwest: 15-9/7-6 MACCC, T-6th place in conference

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC beat Meridian 93-47 last at Meridian. Tytiana Buckley led the Bulldogs with 23 points and had 16 rebounds.
  • Northwest beat Meridian 65-61 on Thursday at Meridian.

Previous Meeting

On Feb. 13, 2023, Gulf Coast beat Northwest 66-50 at Perkinston. Simaru Fields poured in 31 points and had 11 rebounds.
